The Club

Creating an account is free! If you are not currently playing in The Club but wish to receive updates via e-mail, just click here to sign up for a HomeBase Account. Anyone who participates in The Club is considered to be a member! It’s free to sign up for an account and you only ever pay for the sports, tournaments, or events that you register for.

Leagues

If you know that you will be unable to attend a game during the season, make sure to let your teammates know!

You can use our 'Request a Sub' function to find a sub. This function is live two days prior to your first game and can be found in your HomeBase Account. Using this function sends a message out to our subs list, subs will respond directly to you if they are able to fill in.

Interested in becoming a sub? It's free to join our subs list, and you can join through your HomeBase Account by clicking the 'Become a Sub' function.

Friends or family members can also sub as long as they are 18 years of age or older. Please ensure anyone playing with your team, that is not on the subs list, is added to the roster and confirmed before they play.

Subs can be used at any point during the season including the first game! However, teams that are in contention for the league championship can only bring in subs that have played at least one regular season game with them.

A default occurs when, at the scheduled game start time, a team has fewer than the minimum amount of required players and an official game cannot be played. If a team chooses to leave early and quit the game for any reason, including a lack of players, the team will also be subject to the default rules.

Teams that are defaulted against have the option of charging the default fee. Default fees are refunded directly to the team that was defaulted against as compensation for the missed game.

For double opponent sports (where teams play two different opponents per night), the defaults are per match, not per night. If a team defaults for one night in the season, they may be required to pay the default fee twice, should both opponents enforce the fee.

To learn more about specific default fees for your league and what the minimum players to avoid a default are:

  1. Roll over the Leagues tab at the top of the page

  2. Choose your sport from the drop-down menu

  3. More info coming soon!

For our outdoor sports, the Weather Call will be updated by 4:30pm daily. We ask that all players check the game day status before heading out to their game.

All players should review the Full Weather Policy and Rain Out Procedure.

Yes! If you have found an item, please fill out our Lost & Found Form online. If you have lost an item, please contact the facility at which you played before filling out the form.

All schedules will be posted no later than 11:00pm two days prior to your first game. This is the same timeline for Post-seeding and Playoff schedules.

All schedules are posted on your Homebase Account. By clicking "View Information" on your Active Registrations, you can access your schedule.

Please note that players are asked to view the schedule online each week as facilities or game times can change throughout the season.

Prior to the start of each season, we look at teams’ past seasons in our leagues, along with checking their rosters, and a few other factors to determine which division and sub-division teams are best suited to play in.

During the season (typically around the week 3 mark), we re-evaluate standings across all leagues and decide if there are any teams that should move up or down divisions based on how well or poorly they are performing. This is done to help keep skill parity within divisions as balanced as possible.

Teams playing a sport with a Games Coordinator or Events Coordinator need to confirm their score with the EC/GC before leaving the field/gym.

Teams in Team Captain sports are responsible for ensuring their team’s score gets entered by 5:00pm the day following their game. Scores are reported online through your HomeBase Account by clicking "View Information" under your Active Registration. Use the "Submit Scores" button to report your scores!

Registration

All registrations are done online through a HomeBase Account. If you do not already have an account set up, you will need to create your free account first. Once your account is created and activated you can register for the league of your choice by clicking Registrations.

A great place to start is by browsing the variety of leagues we have available. This can be done in the Registrations page to see leagues currently open for registration or by rolling over the Leagues tab at the top of this page and choosing your sport from the drop-down menu.

You'll also need to decide which day and division you'd like to join. If you register for a Monday league, your games will always be on Monday. Many sports have different divisions based on the experience and skills of a team - not on their competitive behaviour! No matter what skill level you register for, all players are expected to play with a 'fun-first, winning-second' attitude. By rolling over the Leagues tab at the top of the page and choosing your sport from the drop-down menu, the sport specific page will detail available days and divisions.

Once you've chosen your Sport, Day, and Division you're ready to register!

The CSSC accepts Full Team, Individuals, and Small Group Registrations.

Full teams are registered by a captain who is responsible for building their own roster. Full teams can add as many people as they would like to their roster. Team Captains must complete the registration for the entire team and can add players to their roster during the registration process or through their HomeBase account.

Individual Registrations can include 1-4 people and Small Groups can include 5-8 people. Individual and Smalls Groups will be placed together to create a full team roster. Players that register together under one registration will always be placed on the same team. If your group is registering separately, please include the names of players you would like to be placed with in the comment box when registering. Changes to rosters, including adding or removing players, must be done by contacting the office.

The CSSC runs seasonal sports leagues. Exact registration dates vary each year, but here is a general outline:

A player’s HomeBase account will reflect one of the following statuses in regards to registrations:

Awaiting Processing: Your registration has been received and will be reviewed within two business days.
Assembling Team: We are working on placing other individuals onto a team with you. Your spot will be confirmed when there are enough registrants to form a full team roster.

In order to receive a full refund, cancellations must be submitted 7 days prior to the registration deadline. After this date, no team or player will be eligible for a full or partial credit or refund.

If a player registers after the cancellation deadline, they are eligible for a refund any time prior to receiving a placement confirmation from the CSSC. Once a confirmation email has been sent, the registration is no longer eligible for a full or partial refund.

Online Player Orientations (OPOs) are a tool for players to acquire important information about their leagues to ensure they have a successful and fun season. All Individuals, Small Group registrants, and new Team Captains are required to complete Online Player Orientations. OPOs can be found in your HomeBase account.

Players may be required to complete a few different orientations in their first season; each taking anywhere from 5-10 minutes to complete. Players are able to start, stop, and restart each orientation as necessary.

OPOs must be fully completed with a score of 100% prior to the start of the regular season. Full teams who do not meet this requirement will lose 1 spirit point until the Required OPOs have been completed. Required orientations are based on the current seasons registration, so despite having potentially completed OPOs in the past, you may need to complete a new OPO if you're trying a new sport or format!

A goal of the CSSC is to ensure that every team and player has a great experience and OPOs are an essential resource in helping us meet this goal.

All players who play with the CSSC have the option to add a person to their registration or team by sending them an invite. Full teams can add players at any point during registration or the season while Individuals and Small Groups must add all players during registration or by contacting the office. Players can accept invites directly through their HomeBase accounts. Please note that if an invite is sent to an email address not associated with the player’s HomeBase account, the invite will not show up. In this case the captain should resend the invite using the correct email. In the case of Individual and Group registrations, the office will need to be contacted to update the email address.

The CSSC requires that all players participating in any leagues, tournaments, or events agree to the Calgary Sport and Social Club Liability Waiver. This waiver is signed by anyone who register themselves online, or by accepting an invite to join a registration.

All Full Teams need to have the minimum roster requirement confirmed on their roster prior to their first game. Teams will receive a loss for their first game and every game played until they meet the minimum requirements. Prior to playoffs, teams must have their full roster confirmed. To learn more about our roster policy please click here.

Facilities & Equipment

The CSSC rents gyms from both the City (Public gyms) and Private gyms for indoor sports. For Outdoor sports, the CSSC rents the majority of its fields/diamonds from the City (Playfields and Premium Athletic Parks) along with the occasional Private field. All gyms and fields are located throughout the City of Calgary. The CSSC does it’s best to book facilities in different quadrants of the City, but depending on availability it isn’t always possible.

For more information on game times and locations follow the steps below:

  1. Roll over the Leagues tab at the top of the page

  2. Choose your sport from the drop-down menu

  3. Check out the League Details menu for 'Season Details' & 'Facility Locations'

Absolutely! During the registration process, you will notice a comment box where players can include any special requests they may have for the season. The CSSC will do our best to accommodate these requests, while still keeping the location/time distribution as fair as possible for other teams.

Facilities are the foundation of our organization and without them we would not be able to play ANY sports. It is very important to respect each facility and their caretaker staff. If we receive 3 complaints within 3 year time frame, we could lose the right to rent from that facility. If teams do not follow our policies, they may be fined $100 and suspended from league play.

A few key DONT'S to remember:

  • Drinking Alcohol

  • Wandering halls

  • Propping doors open

  • Wearing outdoor shoes (remember to always bring clean indoor shoes!)

  • Leaving garbage

  • Playing sports in the hallway

  • Causing any facility damage

The CSSC does actually pay for port-o potties at several of the heavy utilized locations! However, with the amount of diamonds and fields utilized by the CSSC each night and the cost associated with renting and maintaining port-o-potties, it would increase the team fees significantly. With past surveys it has been determined that players would prefer a lower league fee than washrooms at each field. There are always options to travel to the closest gas station, convenience store, etc. if needed.

Slo-Pitch, Outdoor Soccer, and Kickball all require teams to bring their own equipment.

The CSSC sets specific pick-up/drop-off dates each season for players to get their equipment for the season or to bring it back after they have wrapped up the league. These dates are important to follow as the Club distributes the equipment out of our office, but are not regularly set up for distribution.

More information on equipment can be found on your sports main homepage.

Sportsmanship

The ESSC implements a sportsmanship rating system to help ensure players are maintaining a “Fun-First” attitude. The sportsmanship rating system uses Spirit Points, which are rated as +1, or 0. All teams are asked to rate their opponent's spirit at the end of each game. The overall spirit rating should take into account how fun the opposing team was to play and their attempts to limit fouls and/or call fouls they did commit.

Teams must submit a Complaint Form by 5:00pm the day following their game in order for a 0 spirit point rating to stand. ESSC Staff also reserve the right to change spirit ratings if it is believed that they are not warranted and/or an appropriate representation of team's play.

Good sportsmanship is what the ESSC is all about! As such, the Club likes to acknowledge and reward teams who embrace the Fun-First, Winning-Second mentality. The ESSC has two programs in place to reward teams who have great sportsmanship: Team of the Week and Lady Bing. To nominate a team for good sportsmanship, click here.

Games & Event Coordinators

Games Coordinators (GCs) are part-time employees who are paid by the CSSC to facilitate games in the following sports: Basketball, Dodgeball, Ball Hockey, Multi-Sport, Indoor Soccer and some Outdoor Soccer.

GCs are not referees, as the CSSC leagues are self-officiated. As a fun-first league, the CSSC puts the onus on players to call their own fouls and infractions during the game. While they are trained to have a strong knowledge of the rules of the sport, they are present to facilitate and mediate the game, as well as, manage the facility booking.

GCs are scheduled based on their weekly availability. In some cases, the GC’s availability and the facility availability matches the entire season, but sometimes teams will get the opportunity to meet new GC's throughout the season.

Interested in becoming a GC? You can apply here!

Event Coordinators (ECs) are players registered and playing in the league themselves, who agree to help facilitate their games in the following sports: Badminton, Bowling, Curling, Darts, Flag Football, Flag Rugby, Lawn Bowling, Pickleball, Volleyball, Tennis and Ultimate.

ECs are responsible for managing the facility that their team is scheduled to play at, alongside the other teams that are present. During the EC’s timeslot, they are responsible for:

  • Setting up the equipment

  • Liaising with facility staff

  • Sharing pre-game announcements

  • Ensure matches are starting and ending on time

  • Reporting scores to the ESSC office

The best part? ECs get to play for free!

Want to get involved? For any sports that require an EC, players can indicate their interest to Become an EC, by clicking the checkbox on their registration form.

Tournaments and Events

Registration typically opens 2 months prior to each tournament; however, exceptions may apply. To see when registration opens for a specific tournament, roll over the Tournaments tab at the top of the page and choose your sport from the drop-down.

Yes, you are welcome to register as an individual for CSSC Tournaments and we will do our best to place you on an Individuals Team. Individuals Teams are dependent on whether or not we have enough players and meet any co-ed restrictions. We typically cannot confirm you at the time of your registration, but will continue to keep in touch with updates as we have them. If we are unable to place you onto an Individuals Team, you will be notified and fully refunded.
