2010 CSSC FLOOR HOCKEY INFORMATION
|
REGISTRATION
DEADLINE NOW IN EFFECT
|
Please take note of the registration deadline of Thursday, September
16th, 2010. Prior to this deadline, all registrants are accepted
on a first-come, first-served basis; the closer to September 16th that you get your registration in, the better your chances are of making it
into the league of your choice. After September 16th, if we
require registrants, we will advertise any spots that are available. |
Cancellation Policy |
In order to receive a full refund, cancellations must be
submitted 2 business days prior to the registration deadline applicable to
that season. After this time, no player or team will be eligible for a full
or partial refund or credit. |
General Description |
This
is a fast-paced and competitive sport, but the CSSC emphasizes a ‘fun-first’
attitude to the game! This season, sharpen your skills, broaden your knowledge,
and have a great time with your team at one of our 5 private facilities each
week. It’s a 5 on 5 game including the goalies (or 6 on 6 if you register for
the Currie Barracks league), with a minimum of 2 females on the floor at all
times. The CSSC offers Recreational, Recreational Plus, Intermediate and
Intermediate Plus/Competitive divisions. We also offer a Recreational Plus
division on Sunday evenings that plays out of the NSD floor hockey arena
exclusively. All divisions have a Coordinator present but you are expected to
call your own fouls and be responsible for your own play. After your game,
meet-up with your team mates and other CSSC players while enjoying exclusive
specials at one of our many Sponsor Bars around
Calgary. Floor Hockey is one of the CSSC’s
most popular sports and leagues sell out quickly.
|
Who Can Play? |
Adults aged 18 and older can
join the Floor Hockey leagues. All Floor Hockey Leagues in the CSSC are
co-ed. We welcome full teams, small groups (5 or more players but not a full
team), friends (2-4 players) and individual registrations. Small groups, friends
and individual registrations are combined with other similar registrants to
form a team that remains together for the duration of the season. |

FLOOR HOCKEY DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS
|
Level
|
Description |
Really
Recreational |
Is 75%
of your team new to hockey, and new to the CSSC? Do you love hockey but don’t
want to play against those ultra skilled players? Then this is the division
for you. It will allow teams to get to know the rules, sportsmanship system
and skills required to move up to higher divisions. There will be more points
awarded for sportsmanship in this league, with those points being directly
added to the win/loss points. Additionally, each player is only allowed to
score three goals per game and the mercy score is 5-0. After a mercy has been
achieved, it is mandatory for teams to switch goalies and play for fun.
|
Recreational |
This
division will see teams that may have some skilled players, but typically the
team as a whole does not have a lot of experience playing any form of hockey.
Passing, shooting and goaltending is unpredictable as some teams learn the
sport better than others. There is a big emphasis on fun first. |
Recreational
Plus |
This
division will see teams where the majority of players have played some form
of hockey in the past. Passing and shooting are typically accurate, with
goaltenders being skilled. The games in this division are usually fast-paced
with a lot of action. |
Intermediate |
Teams
in this division are too good to play in the Rec levels, but need more
experience to get to the Int+/Competitive levels. This division will see
teams who can form organized plays and are very skilled in all aspects of the
game (offense, defense, goaltending). |
The
above divisions are created based on skill level and not on competitive
behaviour. All SSC players are expected to play with a ‘fun-first, winning
second’ attitude. The SSC may move your team up or down a division based on
seasonal results. |
